How to use Disaar Black Hair Shampoo (step by step)

Disaar Black Hair Shampoo colours grey hair in one wash. It's easy to use, but because it contains hair dye, a few safety steps really matter. Here's the full routine.

Before you start: the 48-hour skin test

Hair dyes, including colour shampoos, can cause allergic reactions, and some can be serious. Do this test 48 hours before every use, even if you've used the product before:

1. Apply a small amount behind your ear or on your inner elbow.
2. Leave it to dry and don't wash the area for 48 hours.
3. If you get any itching, redness, swelling or burning, don't use the product.

What you need

• One pack of Disaar Black Hair Shampoo (one box has 10)
• The gloves supplied, or your own disposable gloves
• An old towel and a timer
• A little petroleum jelly or oil for your hairline and ears, to avoid staining

Step by step

1. Protect your skin. Put on the gloves and apply petroleum jelly along your hairline, ears and neck.
2. Prepare your hair. Follow the pack directions on whether to start with dry or damp hair, and comb out any tangles.
3. Apply. Squeeze one pack onto your hair and work it in from the roots, where the grey shows most, then along the lengths.
4. Massage evenly so every grey area is covered.
5. Wait 10–20 minutes. A shorter time gives a softer shade, and a longer time gives a deeper black.
